Trooper wounded in gunfire

A Kentucky State Trooper was shot late Sunday after a high speed chase on I-24 in Lyon County and the interstate was closed for a period time while police searched an assailant

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet were assisting Kentucky State Police and other law enforcement with closing all traffic on I-24 between Exit 45 and Exit 54 early this morning. All eastbound and westbound lanes were closed at around 2am in southern Lyon County.

Initial reports indicated that around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, a trooper was involved in a high-speed chase with shots fired.  

According to Kentucky State Police, a Post 1 trooper was shot in the incident. Police have some individuals detained. However, one person had fled the scene. Police are focused on locating the suspect in a wooded area between about the 45 and 49 mile marker.  This is along I-24 extending from the Eddy Creek area to around Bells Creek, which is generally north of the Lamasco community in southern Lyon County.
