The National Weather Service at Paducah is warning of an elevated wildfire risk across the heartland today. The combination of low relative humidity, dry vegetation and gusty winds will result in an elevated danger in controlling any fires today. The humidity and dry vegetation will reach or surpass critical thresholds this afternoon. In contrast, the wind is expected to remain just below critical values. However, wind gusts will approach 20 mph at times which will make it difficult to contain or control an fires that get started. Burning is not recommended today.
