Group confirms interest in buying hospital

Mayor Byford was among local leaders who commented
during Tuesday's meeting at the hospital.
The firm hired last year to manage Crittenden Health Systems says it now wants to own the hospital.

Rural Health Group met with local community leaders on the hospital campus yesterday, making a public statement about its interest in acquiring the hospital.

Right now, the group owns another rural hospital in Booneville, Mo., and is near closing a deal to buy another one in Wellington, Kan.

Beyond its interest in CHS, Rural Health Group is currently working on arrangements to acquire two other rural hospitals.

Check your driver's license expiration

Crittenden Circuit Court Clerk Melissa Guill is reminding local drivers to check their license expiration date, as the Commonwealth of Kentucky no longer mails renewal notices to drivers.

However, Guill said license holders can now sign up for an email reminder from the state as to when their license is about to expire. Sign up for this service at the Crittenden County Circuit Court Clerk's office.

She said a number of local residents have unwittingly been driving on expired licenses. A license is good for four years. The expiration date is printed on the front of the license.

High-speed pursuit last night near Salem

A high-speed pursuit last night in rural Livingston County has led to the arrest of a Salem man on multiple felony charges.

Livingston County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jason Kirk was patrolling in Salem about 6 p.m., when he observed a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser westbound on US 60 driven by Clayton Dickerson, 22, who the deputy knew to have an active warrant against him from Crittenden County for theft.

When the deputy tried to stop the PT Cruiser, Dickerson sped away, turned into a gas station parking lot and circled the building. Dickerson then drove onto Ky. 133 and the chase headed toward Lola, where Dickerson eventually crashed on Slocum Road and Dickerson took off running in a soybean field but was caught.

Dickerson was lodged in the McCracken County Jail on charges of first- and second-degree fleeing or evading police, five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, driving without a license and other traffic offenses.

A woman in the vehicle with Dickerson also fled on foot after the car crashed. She was not immediately apprehended, but will likely be facing charges once authorities find her.
