2nd demolition explosion of old Ledbetter Bridge moved to Wednesday

Round 2 of controlled explosive demolition of the old Ledbetter Bridge near Paducah has been moved back a day.

The next detonation is now planned for 8 a.m. Wednesday. The one-day delay has been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard. The revised detonation schedule was requested by the contractor to allow additional time to complete removal of steel from the first blast, and for cutting the section of truss nearest the Livingston County shore of the Tennessee River to prepare for the next round of explosives.

KyTC personnel will again set up a lane restriction for westbound traffic on the new U.S. 60 Tennessee River Bridge at Ledbetter. That will allow the public to observe the detonation from the deck of the new bridge which is about 2,000 feet downstream from the old structure.

Moving detonation of the second truss to Wednesday means demolition of the center truss is now scheduled for Oct. 1. Both detonations are scheduled for 8.

Just as with the first detonation, there will be a 1,500-foot safety zone around the blast site. The public may observe the event from the deck of the new bridge, or along Delta Drive on the Livingston County side of the river.
