2nd atomic bomb dropped 70 years ago

Seventy years ago today, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on Japan. The bombing of Nagasaki came three days after the bombing of Hiroshima. About 74,000 people were killed. Japan surrendered five days later.

The bombing on Aug. 9, 1945, was announced on the first network television broadcast. The program, broadcast from Washington, D.C., announced the bombing.
