Illinois officials have confirmed that the small aircraft that fueled up in Marion last night and left around 8:30 p.m., crashed a short time later north of Eddyville, Ill., in the Shawnee National Forest.
A hiker found the plane late Monday.
Search and rescue crews had spent all day looking for the plane.
The pilot and a passenger were both dead.
