Core drilling has begun near Frances

The company exploring for fluorspar in the southern part of the county began taking samples of earth Monday.

Appalachian Spar hopes to locate enough deposits to start mining and milling fluorspar here again. 

At one time, fluorspar was a major industry in the county.
