Kentukcy highway fatalities down

Through March 31, 122 people have lost their lives in vehicle accidents on Kentucky roads. That compares to 126 fatalities at the same time a year ago, according to the state Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety.

Of the 122 fatalities, four occurred on motorcycles and 19 were in commercial vehicles.

Among the fatal wrecks this year, 40 percent of the victims were wearing seat belts while nearly 49 percent were not.

The age groups 20-24 and 55-64 years had the most fatalities -- 17.2 percent each.

The area comprised of the KSP Elizabethtown post had the largest number of fatalities -- 27; while the Frankfort post was second with 11. With only one fatal wreck, the Harlan post had the fewest.
