Bill honoring first responders OK'D
THE (ELIZABETHTOWN) NEWS-ENTERPRISE
Kentucky emergency response personnel soon could be added to those honored by flying the United States flag at half-staff when members are killed in the line of duty.
Legislation sponsored by Sen. Dennis Parrett adding first responders to the list of honorees was approved Wednesday at the state House and is headed to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
In the event of such a tragedy, Senate Bill 161 would authorize and request that the governor issue a proclamation calling upon state officials to display the U.S. flag at half-staff on all state buildings. The flag would be flown from sunrise to sunset for not less than one day.
