A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans base repairs to be followed by asphalt paving along a section of U.S. 60 in southern Union County starting today.
This project along U.S. 60 in the Sturgis area of Union County will run from the 1 mile marker extending eastward through Sullivan to the 6 mile marker near the 10th Street intersection in Sturgis.
The contractor will start with base repairs and sidewalk upgrades on today. Once the base repairs are completed, traffic will be allowed to run on the repaired areas for approximately one week while the repaired areas settle. The contractor will then return for asphalt paving which should take about a week to complete.
Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers in the work zone. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and maintenance personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
Rogers Group is the prime contractor on this $615,421 highway improvement project. All work along this section is expected to be completed by Sept. 18, weather permitting.
