State Rep. Ryan Quarles, Republican candidate for agriculture commissioner, was the standout at Thursday’s Meet the Ag Commissioner Candidates forum – mostly because his opponent, Democrat Jean-Marie Lawson Spann, wasn’t there. She reportedly had a scheduling conflict that kept her from attending the event, held by the Christian County Agri-Business Association and the Christian County Chamber of Commerce. Her opponent didn’t miss the opportunity to comment on her absence, claiming this isn’t the first time she has failed to attend a forum.
