Kentucky voters remain largely unfamiliar with the two announced
candidates for governor in 2015, as well as a third politician who is
expected to make clear his intentions for the race at this weekend's
Fancy Farm picnic, according to a new Bluegrass Poll. The three men —
Attorney General Jack Conway, former Louisville Metro Councilman Hal
Heiner and Agriculture Commissioner James Comer — were viewed favorably
by fewer than one in four voters, suggesting a wide-open race with room
for others to join the contest.

Opposition to gay marriage waning, poll finds
Opposition to gay marriage continues to erode in Kentucky with only half
of the state's voters favoring prohibitions on same-sex couples that
were struck down in federal court this month. Results from the latest
Bluegrass Poll, released Tuesday, show 50 percent of registered voters
in Kentucky oppose same-sex marriage, while 37 percent favor it and 12
percent remain unsure. That's a drop from the 55 percent who said they
opposed gay marriage in February and a sharp decline from the 72 percent
that voted in favor of a ban in 2004 — when the state constitution was
amended to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

Bluegrass Poll: Voters focused on economy, say McConnell, Grimes have obligation to debate
More than half of Kentucky voters say creating jobs and improving the
economy is the top issue facing the United States, and two-thirds of
voters say Kentucky's U.S. Senate candidates have an obligation to
debate each other. According to the latest Bluegrass Poll, 56 percent of
respondents answered "economy and jobs" when asked to choose the
nation's most pressing issue. In addition to jobs, respondents were
given six other topics to choose from: immigration, foreign policy,
health care, energy, social issues, and taxes and spending. Economy and
jobs was the top issue among all demographics and regions of the state.

Portion of U.S. 62 in Lyon closed Tuesday
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a section of U.S. 62 in Lyon County on Tuesday.
U.S. 62 will be closed to through traffic east of Eddyville at mile-point 10.75. This along U.S. 62 just east of the U.S. 641 intersection between Eddyville and Princeton. The closure point is at about the mid-point between Paul Jones Drive and Gill Pike Road.
The closure is to allow the contractor to place a cross drain under the existing roadway as part of ongoing work to widen this section of U.S. 62 to four lanes.
The roadway will close at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday. It is expected to reopen to traffic late in the day on Tuesday. Local traffic will be maintained on each side of the closure point.
There will be no marked detour. Motorists should self-detour via Interstate 69 and Interstate 24.

Dyer Hill Curve road construction to close U.S. 60 over weekend
Weekend travelers along U.S. 60 through Livingston County will encounter a detour.
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KyTC) plans to close a section of the federal highway in Livingston County beginning early Saturday morning in order to allow a new section of highway in the Dyer Hill Curve construction project to be tied to the existing roadway.
U.S. 60 will be closed at mile-point 18.5 in Livingston County. It is expected to close at 6 a.m. on Saturday and is expected to reopen to traffic at around 6 p.m. Sunday.
A marked detour will be provided for the approximately 4,000 vehicles that travel this section of U.S. 60 in an average day.
KyTC spokesman Keith Todd noted that closing U.S. 60 at the site is the most efficient and least disruptive way to complete the work. Had the contractor tried to make the transition to the new roadway while maintaining traffic flow through the work zone, it would have disrupted traffic off and on for two weeks. By closing the roadway, the project can be completed over two days and get traffic fully transitioned to the new roadway before school starts.
Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on this $2.2 million highway improvement project.
