Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff Friday in honor of Senior U.S. District Court Judge John Heyburn II, who died last week after a battle with liver cancer.
“For three decades, Judge Heyburn served as a fair, progressive and sound voice on the federal bench,” said Gov. Beshear. “His legacy will stand out in Kentucky’s judicial history, and we are all in debt to his many years of public service. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of mourning.”
A memorial service for Judge Heyburn will be held Friday at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Louisville. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
