The Cave In Rock Ferry will likely remain closed the entire day; however, the ferry office reports that the service could possibly resume Friday. The ferry across the Ohio River has been closed since New Year's Eve.
The Shawneetown, Ill., river gauge, which the ferry office uses to determine when to resume service, was reported at 41 feet as of 9:30 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. That is 8 feet above flood stage.
