A number of western Kentucky coal miners reported this morning getting notices from their employer, Alliance Coal, that layoffs may be coming over the next 60 days. Alliance has issued no formal news release on the move, but The Crittenden Press has independently confirmed that hundreds of miners in western Kentucky and southern Illinois have received WARN notifications.
The notice is very likely a signal of tough times for area miners.
