Wreck injures one on U.S. 60 East

Kentucky State Police are investigating a single-vehicle, injury-collision on U.S. 60 East, about seven miles north of Marion, at around 11 a.m. today.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Angela R. Maples, 41, of Marion, was operating a 1997 Mercury Tracer westbound on U.S. 60 East when she lost control of the vehicle in a curve on the wet roadway.  t traveled across the eastbound lane and exited the roadway. The vehicle traveled down an earthen embankment and struck a tree, before coming to rest off the roadway.

Maples was not injured. The front passenger, Valina Yates, 40, of Marion, was transported via ambulance to Crittenden Health Systems for treatment. The rear passenger, Yates' daughter, Myra Yates, 3, was not injured. Both adults were wearing seatbelts. The child was restrained in a child safety seat.

Trooper Ben Sawyer is investigating the collision. Crittenden County Rescue Squad, who extricated one of the adult victims; Mattoon Community Volunteer Fire Department; Crittenden County EMS; and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.
