City's cup runneth over; water problem in county

Just a month ago, city officials were scrambling for alternative water sources because Lake George was drying up. Now, thanks to almost 7 inches of rain the past couple of weeks, the lake is running over its spillway.

Marion Police Chief Ray O'Neal went out this morning to inspect the lake level and found it above normal stage.

The intense rains are creating problems around the county, however. Several roads are closed, including Blackburn Church Road, Providence Road, Enon Church Road, Cool Springs Road, Weston Road, Elizabethtown Landing Road, Phin Croft Road and Monroe Wesmoland Road.

Just this morning, highway officials closed Ky. 135 near Elizabethtown Landing in what's known as sawmill hollow. The state figures it will have to close Ky. 1917, Wolf Creek Road, on the other side of the county at some point today.
