Nearly half of Kentucky’s estimated 640,000 residents without health insurance could qualify for expanded Medicaid when the state’s health insurance exchange program, Kynect, opens for enrollment Tuesday. Coverage for early enrollees (those joining before Dec. 15 at kynect.ky.gov) will begin Jan. 1. Open enrollment runs through March 31. Many of the remainder who enroll will qualify for some form of a subsidy, according to Bill Nold, deputy executive director for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ Health Benefits Exchange.
