Area bracing for more winter mix

Highway crews continue to prepare for another round of winter precipitation, which could start tomorrow.

"The good news is that the massive amounts of salt required to melt snow and ice that covered western Kentucky highways during extreme cold over the weekend has left plenty of salt residue on driving surfaces," said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Keith Todd. "That salt residue provides the equivalent of pre-treating for the coming winter event."

Forecasters say a wintry mix of precipitation can be expected in western Kentucky and southern Illinois on Wednesday. However, they say it will not be anything like the ice storm of 2009.
