UPDATE: Power has been restored to some areas, however, KU says 431 customers are still without electricity, including the elementary school. Students were fed sandwiches for lunch. School officials anticipate that the lights will be back on at CCES by noon.

A widespread power outage on the southwest side of Marion this morning has affected homes, businesses, schools and the hospital.

The hospital is operating, however, on a back-up generator.

KU says about 1,372 customers are currently without power. The company estimates that electricity will be restored by 11 a.m.
