The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to close a section of US 60 in southern Union County on Wednesday.
This closure along US 60 at mile point 4.718 between Sullivan and Sturgis is to allow a cross drain to be replaced. A contractor is working on base repairs to be followed by paving along this section in coming weeks. As part of a routine check of drainage structures along the project area it was determined the cross drain should be replaced prior to paving.
US 60 will be closed at this site starting at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, immediately following the morning school bus run. The roadway is expected to reopen to normal traffic flow by about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
This closure site is along US 60 is between Pryor Boulevard at the Union County Fairgrounds/Sturgis Airport Entrance and Sturgis. US 60 will be open to local traffic only on each side of the closure point. This section of US 60 between Sturgis and Sullivan also carries KY 109.
There will be a marked detour via KY 141 and KY 270.
About 3,500 vehicles normally travel this section of US 60 in an average day.
