Voters will have to detour in Livingston

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers have developed a plan for repairs to the Gum Creek Fork Bridge on KY 866 (Paradise Road) in Livingston County. Work is expected to start Monday at the site.

The bridge on KY 866, near the intersection with KY 93 (Iuka Road) in the Mitchell's Store area, has been closed to traffic since May 2 when rushing floodwaters took out most of the support structure at the south end of the bridge.

A bridge crew expects extensive repairs to the Gum Creek Fork Bridge to take at least two weeks, weather permitting. Engineers say the bridge beams will have to be removed with a crane to allow a new support system to be constructed at the south end of the bridge.

In the meantime, Livingston County officials are concerned about voters getting to the polling place at the nearby Paradise United Methodist Church on election day. While there is no marked detour, voters can self-detour around the closed bridge via KY 93 and KY 453 to KY 1889 (Heater Store Road) and then via Coon Chapel Road back to KY 866 (Paradise Road).
