Cost is $200 for overnight campers and $185 for day campers.

Electronic ticketing here to stay at CCHS

Electronic ticketing for sporting events is here to stay, and Crittenden County School District will vote in June whether to convert from TicketLeap to the GoFan application beginning in the fall seasons.

GoFan allows both online ticket purchases and credit card payments at the gate.

GoFan is used by a number of school districts and by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association – perhaps exclusively in the near future. GoFan will provide the district with two iPads and two credit card readers to be used at entry gates of sporting events.

Athletic director Bryan Qualls said GoFan has the ability to text fans and update tickets if game dates change due to weather or other factors after tickets have been purchased. Suggested ticket price will be $6. 

The GoFan app also paves the way for credit cards to be used at the concession stands in the future, Qualls said.

Asbridge, former county judge, dies

Henry M. "Roni" Asbridge, 89, of Marion died at his home Sunday. 

He served as Critenden County Judge-Executive one term from 1982 to 1985 and was sheriff from 1978 to 1981 and jailer from 1994 to 1998.

Comment on safe water sought by scientists

The Kentucky Academy of Science is urging the state’s advocates for science and health to offer feedback as federal officials collect public comments on proposed national drinking water standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

The proposed drinking water standards represent some of the most significant recommendations ever offered to protect the nation’s drinking water from PFAS. Under the proposal, legally enforceable levels would be established for six PFAS known to occur in drinking water.

PFAS are man-made chemicals found in a number of everyday products. Known as "forever chemicals" PFAS resist breaking down even many years after the items that contain them have been discarded. Because of this, they continually accumulate in soil and water, in the food supply, and even in human bloodstreams.  PFAS chemicals have been associated with health threats, including an increased risk for some cancers.

Free lunch Tuesday at Marion Baptist

Tuesday, May 30 will be the monthly free lunch served at Marion Baptist Church.

Between 11 a.m.-1 p.m., church members will serve cheesy chicken and rice, roasted vegetables and cake to anyone in the community who wishes to stop by.

Marion Baptist Church is located on the corner of East Depot and South College streets.

Memorial Weekend Services

Blackford Veterans Walk of Honor will hosts its annual Memorial Day celebration and recognition service starting at 10 a.m., Saturday at the site on Blackford Church Road in Crittenden County. 

Keynote speaker is Judge Alan C. Stout. There will be a dedication service of 9 bricks and 4 tiles in memory of various individuals who have served in the U.S. military.

Musician and singer Tim Rhodes will be on sight providing entertainment beginning at 9 a.m. until the program begins, and then afterwards. Also at the event will be a food truck from Union County specializing in burgers, ice cream, donuts, etc.

SATURDAY

Blackford Veterans Memorial will host a service beginning at 10 a.m. Federal Judge Alan Stout will be keynote speaker and the event will feature a memorial brick dedication.

SUNDAY

Burna American Legion will host its annual Memorial Weekend event at 8 a.m., with a continental breakfast at end. U.S. Army veteran John Driskill of Smithland will be the speaker. 

MONDAY

Mapleview Cemetery in Marion will have its annual Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. U.S. Army veteran John Driskill of Smithland will be the speaker. 

Shady Grove Cemetery will have its regular Memorial Day Service at  11 a.m. with lunch to follow. Judge-Executive Perry Newcom will be among the speakers. 

Fredonia will host a service honoring fallen veterans at its memorial. The event will begin at 1 p.m. Bring lawn chairs.

Crash and stolen vehicle today in county

An automobile accident this afternoon has led to a LifeFlight trip to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for a man involved in a Jeep crash near Tolu. No further information was immediately available. 

Also, Crittenden County Sheriff has been working on a stolen vehicle case. A truck, trailer and lawn mower was stolen this morning from Marion. The sheriff says he's located the vehicle in Illinois, but the investigation is ongoing.

Crews find culprit at Lake George

Engineers and crewmen from a marine specialty company have found what they believe to be the original culprit for Marion's water woes that began last spring.

The lake, once a recreation area for picnicking and fishing, is currently closed to the public due to potential dangers.

Deadline for Ag Census is May 31

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will end data collection for the 2022 Census of Agriculture on May 31. Kentucky producers who have not yet returned their completed questionnaires have just one week left to respond. Federal law requires everyone who received the ag census to complete and return it. Recipients can respond online at agcounts.usda.gov or by mail.

"Agriculture is important in our state and the census data will be used by all who serve American agriculture," said NASS Regional Director David Knopf. "Your response means you are being represented and helping to shape the future of farming and rural communities."

USDA NASS is reminding ag census recipients that if they produced and sold $1,000 or more of agricultural product in 2022, or normally would have produced and sold that much, they meet USDA’s definition of a farm. However, landowners who lease land to producers, those solely involved in conservation programs, and even those who may not have farmed in 2022 are still required to respond.

Show and Shine Thursday in Marion

This Thursday is the first Marion Show and Shine event car show at the court square.

Every fourth Thursday of the month through September, the Marion Tourism Commission is sponsoring the car show. 

Participants can register to win $500 at the end of the car show season.

Lady Rockets play regional semifinal today

Crittenden County's Lady Rocket softball team will play Caldwell County in today's Second Region semifinal game starting at 5:30pm at Hopkins Central High School.

Caldwell (17-12) has beaten the Lady Rockets twice this season, 5-4 and 8-5. The Lady Tigers were runner-up to Madisonville in their district. 

Crittenden (14-15) has won four of its last five games. The only loss during that run was to Caldwell late in regular season. CCHS is the Fifth District champion for just the third time ever and will be playing in the regional Final Four for only the second time.

Tickets to today's game will be available for cash at the gate. 

Graduation events this week

Seniors lined up on the football field for a drone picture this week.

Baccalaureate for the Crittenden County High School Class of 2023 will be held tonight at 6pm at Rocket Arena.

Class Night is at 6 pm Thursday and graduation Friday at 6pm.
