Lyon County Sheriff's Report

- On Monday, April 7, 2025, around 2:51pm, Deputy Josh Travis served a Lyon Circuit Court bench warrant on Michael J. Burns (38) of Eddyville. Burns was charged with Probation Violation for Felony Offense. He is lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

- On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, around 12:15pm, Deputy Josh Travis and Sheriff Brent White responded to a two-vehicle collision on US 62 in Kuttawa. The investigation revealed a 2024 Volvo dump truck, driven by Charles D. Buie (71) of Paris, TN collided with the rear of a 2012 Chevrolet, driven by Jamie Travis (57) of Kuttawa. Travis was attempting to turn across US 62 onto Mt. Pleasant Road, when Buie’s vehicle collided with her vehicle as she entered the median crossover. No injuries were reported in the collision.

- On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, around 10:06pm, Deputy Josh Travis charged Michael W. Overbaugh (40), of Kuttawa, with being a Fugitive from Justice. Overbaugh was listed as a fugitive from the state of Tennessee for a felony probation violation. His original conviction was for Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Methamphetamine, whereby he had received an 8-year prison sentence in Montgomery County in 2019 and was later placed on state probation. Overbaugh is lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

- On Thursday, April 10, 2025, beginning at 7pm, deputies led by Deputy Shannon Oliver served the following warrants:

- Joshua E. Harper (35) of Eddyville, Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with Criminal Trespassing-3rd Degree, Possession Controlled Substance-1st Degree (Methamphetamine), and Public Intoxication. Harper is lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

- Jalen R. Williams (25) address unknown, Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with Assault-3rd Degree-Inmate Assault on Correctional Employee and Persistent Felony Offender-1st Degree. Remains lodged with the KY Department of Corrections.

- Michael Austin (34) address unknown, Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with Promoting Contraband-1st Degree and Persistent Felony Offender-1st Degree. Remains lodged with the KY Department of Corrections.

- Khalid A. Zaahir (45) address unknown, Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with Assault-3rd Degree-Inmate Assault on Correctional Employee and Persistent Felony Offender-1st Degree. Remains lodged with the KY Department of Corrections.

- Corey E. Wooley (42) address unknown, Lyon Circuit Court indictment warrant charging him with Assault-3rd Degree-Inmate Assault on Correctional Employee and Persistent Felony Offender-1st Degree. Remains lodged with the KY Department of Corrections.

KY 453 back open south of Smithland

KY 453/Iuka Road has reopened at mile point 11.5 following the completion of a new concrete box culvert southeast of Smithland. The section, located between KY 937 (Cutoff Road) and Cothron Road, had been closed since mid-March due to flash flood damage.

A contractor finished replacing the damaged culvert, restoring access to a roadway that averages about 1,335 vehicles daily. The repair project was included in the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 1 Roadshow Report.

HIGH WATER REPORT | Road Closings

Floodwaters Close Multiple Roads in Crittenden, Livingston and Lyon Counties

High water as of 8 a.m., this morning has closed or restricted traffic on several state highways in Crittenden, Livingston and Lyon counties.

In Crittenden County, the following roads are closed:

  • KY 1917 at mile points 1.5 (Wolf Creek) and 3.35, both due to high water.

  • KY 91 at MP 15 leading to the Cave-In-Rock ferry, which is also closed.

  • KY 120 at MP 16 near the Tradewater River.

  • KY 132 at MP 1.973.

  • KY 135 from MP 0 to 2.15 near the Crittenden-Livingston County Line; from MP 4.15 to 5.3 between KY 297 and KY 723 near Tolu; from MP 6.6 to 7.35 between KY 723 and KY 1668; and at MP 12.1 near KY 91 at the One Lane Bridge.

  • U.S. 60 at MP 22.5 near the Crittenden-Union County Line.

  • KY 365 at MP 7.7 between Bells Mine Road and the Crittenden-Union County Line.

In Livingston County, closures due to high water include:

  • KY 917/Tucker Temple Road from MP 6.9 to 8.3.

  • KY 137/River Road from MP 0 to 15.2 between U.S. 60 and KY 133/Lola Road.

  • KY 133 from MP 18.3 to 18.8 near the KY 137 intersection.

  • KY 1608/Maxfield Road from MP 2 to 3.1 between KY 763 and KY 135.

  • KY 135/Tolu Road from MP 12.4 to 13.3 near the Crittenden County Line.

KY 70/Tiline Road is open in Livingston County but water is over the road from MP 0 to 1 near Smithland and from MP 8 to 9 near Tiline. One lane is passable in both areas; drivers are advised to use caution.

In Lyon County, KY 819 is closed with high water at MP 2.3 near Panther Creek. KY 295 South is open but has water over the roadway near MP 3.6 at the entrance to U.S. 62.

US 60 closing tonight

U.S. 60 East at the Union and Crittenden County line will close at 7:30 p.m., due to high water, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Officials said there is currently no plan to reopen the road Friday morning. Updates will be provided as conditions change.

Water has begun creeping over the road at the Crittenden and Union Line on US 60 and will likely get high enough later today that it will be closed, too. Right now it is passable.

Other state highways closed in the area.

Crittenden County

KY 1917 is CLOSED with high water at the 1.5 MP (Wolf Creek). This is between Wolf Creek Road and Roberts Road.

KY 1917 is CLOSED with high water at the 3.35 MP, south of the intersection with KY 120. 

KY 91 is CLOSED with high water at about the 15 MP leading up to the Cave-In-Rock ferry. The ferry is closed. 

KY 120 is CLOSED with high water at the 16 MP off the Tradewater River. 

KY 120 is CLOSED with high water at the 14.3 MP, just past Enon Church Road. 

KY 132 is CLOSED with high water at the 1.973 MP.

KY 135 is CLOSED with high water between the 4.15 MP (Sawmill Hollow) and the 5.3 MP. This is between KY 297 and KY 723, east of the community of Tolu.

KY 135 is CLOSED with high water at the 6.6 MP. This is between KY 723 and Barnett Ford Road, near the community of Tolu.

Water rising between Marion | Sturgis

Rising water levels along US 60 near mile point 22.5 at Sullivan are threatening to close the highway by Friday afternoon, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The roadway remains open today, but engineers reviewing flood forecasts and 2011 data anticipate high water will force its closure April 11. A potential detour via KY 365 is also expected to flood and could close between 4 and 7 p.m. Friday.

Due to the uncertainty of the situation, closure times may shift. KYTC plans to issue a more accurate update by noon Friday.

TRAFFIC ALERT | 60 West guardrails today

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans a work zone lane restriction on U.S. 60 between Salem and Marion on Thursday, April 10.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane near the 1.14-mile marker along U.S. 60 between KY 855 and KY 297 so a crew can install replacement guardrails at a recent culvert replacement project.

Motorists should be alert for signs and flaggers and shift to open lane in the work zone. Appropriate caution required.

Estimated duration for completion is one day, weather permitting.

Between April 16-19, visitors to the church grounds 
can read the scriptures that Jesus experienced each 
night before the crucifixion.

On Sunday, April 20, the empty tomb will celebrate Jesus' resurrection.

Services are at 7 nightly, with Easter services beginning at 7 a.m., April 20.
