CCHS principal Curtis Brown sent an email to The Press this morning advising that the rapper's previously scheduled performance at a pep rally today at the school was cancelled. His email, sent at about 8:30 a.m., said the halftime performance was still on.
However, later in the morning, The Press learned that the halftime performance tonight was also being scrapped. We have also learned that largely responsible for the quashing of the performance was a movement in the community.
The superintendent said lyrics in some of the artist's songs were brought to light late Thursday after it became widely known that he would be performing here. Clark said the lyrics and their message "do not align with the values we want to promote as a school district and community."
