Crittenden WMA hinges on Fed's cash

The possibility of a state wildlife management area in northern Crittenden and southern Union counties along the Tradewater River hinges on a break in the federal spending impasse in Washington this week.

Congress is trying to decide how much to cut from the federal budget, between $30 and $60 billion, which could directly affect whether the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is able to buy the former Kimball/Alcoa property near Sturgis. The state has wanted to get its hands on the land for three years, since it sold to a North Carolina timber company at public auction.

The Crittenden Press takes a detailed look at what's at stake in this week's printed edition, which will be on sale at newsstands today after 3 p.m.
