EMS responding to U.S. 60 accident

Crittenden County EMS, Crittenden County Rescue and law enforcement are on the scene of an automobile accident on U.S. 60 East near J.P. Howerton Rd.

Multiple patients are involved, including one possible entrapment. Two Air Evac helicopters have been requested, one to the scene and one to the helipad at Crittenden Community Hospital.

U.S. 60 is closed and motorists should avoid this area.

Auto theft overnight in Marion

Marion Police Department is investigating an automobile theft and other mischief that occurred overnight Thursday and early Friday morning.

A car was stolen from a residence on Maxwell Street and crashed into a dumpster at Marion-Crittenden County Park. The suspect or suspects left the damaged vehicle and fled.

Police Chief Ray O'Neal said the incident happened sometime between midnight at 5 a.m.

There were four other incidents overnight where vehicles were rummaged through. Police believe all of the cases are connected. They occurred on East Bellville, East Depot, Old Shady Grove Road and Clark Street. 

Police may have a suspect. They are looking for an unnamed male subject who could have been involved.

641 Connect meeting in Fredonia July 11

The Kentucky Department of Transportation will host a public meeting for Lyon and Caldwell county residents July 11 to present final plans for the reconstruction 

of U.S. 641 at Fredonia to U.S. 62 at Eddyville.

The meeting will be an open house format, allowing attendees to view exhibits and talk to representatives about the project.

Written comments also will be accepted by Aug. 15 to Kyle Post, P.E., KYTC District 1 Office, 5501 Kentucky Dam Rd., Paducah, KY 42003.

All oral and written comments will be part of the official meeting record and later compiled.

The meeting is planned or 5 p.m., at the Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church Activities Building.

Legion baseball coming to M-CC Park

Marion-Crittenden County Park will host American Legion Baseball tonight at 6pm. Madisonville Post 6 vs Ft Campbell Post 233.

There will be two more Legion games at the park in the coming days. Harrisburg, Ill., will play Madisonville at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 2 and Evansville will play Madisonville at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 9.

The Madisonville team is coached by former CCHS Rocket baseball player Adam Driver.

Nominations sought for local Ag Hall of Fame

Nominations for the 2023 Crittenden County Agriculture Rural Leadership Hall of Fame are now being sought. 

The purpose of the local Agriculture Leadership Hall of Fame is to recognize contributions made to agriculture and community leadership. Awards will honor those who have made outstanding contributions to Crittenden County Agriculture. 

Nomination forms are available at the Crittenden County Extension office. Nomination deadline is July 5. 

Honorees will be announced during the Crittenden County Lions Club Fair Breakfast on Friday, Aug. 4. For more information, contact Dee Brasher Heimgartner, agriculture and natural resources education agent, at 270-965-5236.

Heady estate sale Thursday-Friday

An estate sale will be held Thursday and Friday on State Route 1668 in Marion.

Furniture, household appliances and farm equipment are some of the highlights of the estate sale of the late Billy Joe Heady.

Some of the farm equipment to be sold includes a 6-foot bush hog, disk, grinders and seeders, farm gates and a 12-foot trailer.

Lots of miscellaneous items will be included in this estate sale.

Chamber Leadership Breakfast tomorrow

Local leaders will participate in roundtable discussions during a Chamber of Commerce Leadership Breakfast Wednesday, June 28. The session will serve both to brainstorm on ways the Chamber can assist the business and the community. 

Chamber president Shanna West said she has participated in similar small group discussions, which she believes have proven helpful for guiding or revamping business models. She believes working in small groups to discuss ideas can be enlightening and will give chamber directors a sense of the actions the group can use to enhance local retail. 

The leadership breakfast will begin at 7 a.m., at Rocket Arena Conference Room.

KY 120 Bridge lowered to 5-ton limit

Here is an important transportation notice in case you missed this in last week's full-edition of the newspaper. 

A 5-ton load limit has been placed on the overflow bridge on KY 120 across the Tradewater River at the Crittenden-Webster County Line. 

The load rating was ordered reduced after an inspector found significant deterioration of the bridge substructure. The bridge is one of two bridges that cross a slough immediately west of the main Tradewater River bridge between Marion and Providence. 

A project to replace the bridge is expected to start sometime this fall. At that point, the highway will be closed for months.

Fireworks store open on Sturgis Road

Located in Marion across from Dairy Queen, Crazy Train is a seasonal fireworks store in the front half of the Masonic Hall on Sturgis Rd.

It carries a wide variety of fireworks sure to light up the Crittenden County sky.

Friday is Pork Chop Day!

Crittenden County's Lady Rocket basketball team will be selling pork chops tomorrow at the Farmers Market on Main.

This fundraising event will benefit the girls' basketball team.

Swim clinic next month in Marion

A swim clinic at Marion Golf and Pool will teach basic strokes and water safety July 11-12.

The beginner swim clinic will be held from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m., at a cost of $30 per individuals.

The clinic will be designed for ages 5-up. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged.

Tourism group meets at Clement Museum

City of Marion Tourism & Recreation Commission will meet at 8:30am Tuesday, June 20, at the Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum. 

Clerk's Office has opening

The Crittenden County Clerk's Office has a job opening.

The full-time position pays between $10-$14 depending on experience and includes health insurance and state retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation and sick time.

Youth Football Camp Starts Monday

The annual Rocket Youth Football Camp will be held on the CCHS campus from 9 a.m., until 11:30 a.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Lunch will be provided at the school at 11:30.

Cost is $30. There is a $10 discount for more than one sibling. 

The camp is for ages 5-15 and will include all areas of football instruction by Crittenden County High School staff, players and former players. Flag football games will be conducted at the end of each day's workout. Each camper will receive a T-shirt.

Registration will begin at 8:30 am on the first day of camp.

Drawdown of George part of survival plan

Marion has installed a pump and long hose to draw water from Lake George as dry weather sets in across the community. 

Marion remains under a Water Conservation Order due to its year-long water crisis.
