Marion's newest banking institution, First United Bank, welcomes Sturgis resident Charlie Day to its banking center.
Day is employed as the manager of First United Bank's Marion office, where he is also a lender.
He is married to the former Lynsey Taylor of Marion, and they have three children.

Darrel Lee "Peanut" Grissom, 62, of Marion died Friday. Gilbert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
School buys more West Bellville Street frontage
The school district will pay $10,000 to James and Amanda Belt for their home, which will subsequently be razed.
The home and 0.34-acre lot is valued at $12,000, according to the Crittenden County PVA’s online database.
Two years ago, the school district purchased 2.38 acres from the estate of Don Hodge for its initial West Bellville Street frontage. The parcels adjoin the joint middle and high school campus, including Rocket Arena, Rocket Stadium, the bus garage and central office. It creates an additional option for entry and exit from the campuses.

Firemen respond to Marion Pit BBQ blaze
Workers who were cooking barbecue this morning grabbed a garden hose and had most of the fire knocked out before firemen arrived.
It appears a cooker shorted out.
There was no structural damage to the cookhouse, but it was immediately unclear whether the take-out restaurant will be able to open on schedule today because of damage to cooking devices.
Marion Pit Barbecue is one of the longest established eateries in the community and has been featured in various national magazines, including Southern Living.

Hurricane Camp Meeting Opens Monday
The week-long, old-style revival is held in an historic open-air tabernacle built over a century ago. There will be meals before every service and special music nightly.
Evangelist for the June 10-16 Camp Meeting is Kory Cunningham of Hardin Baptist Church in Marshall County. Cunningham is married to former Crittenden County native Katie (Stout) Cunningham.
The dining hall opens at 5:30pm nightly and pre-service music begins at 6:45 in the tabernacle.

Campers will learn techniques to help them steal more bases, improve their defense, hit the ball harder and understand pitch selection and recognition.
This camp will include instruction by former college players, high school coaches and high school players.

Work begins next week on new state highway garage
According to Keith Todd, spokesman for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KyTC), the contractor for the $1.85 million facility in Industrial Park North plans to begin construction as early as Monday. The target completion date is Jan. 15, 2020, but it could take additional weeks to make the building fully operational with phone lines, data services and other necessities.
"Even though the building is expected to be completed, it may be a couple of months beyond that to get all the services online," Todd said.
Once built, the highway crew and equipment that cares for Crittenden County’s 184 miles of state highways will move from its current facility on Old Salem Road. In a land swap, Crittenden County Schools will pay $60,000 for the current KyTC property to Crittenden County Economic Development Corp., which offered the acreage in its industrial park to the state for its new highway garage.
Crittenden County School District has a contract to buy the current highway garage property on Old Salem Road, which is next to the high school campus.

Therapy is available for patients recovering from a multitude of procedures, either on an out-patient basis or during a stay in the hospital's Swing Bed Program.
Swing Bed is a specifically for patients who wish to recover closer to home while receiving hospital services as well as rehabilitation services.

Murder Mystery June 15

The second Marion Murder Mystery is scheduled for June 15. Participants will register at the Marion Welcome Center then stroll through downtown Marion to receive clues from characters at participating businesses.
When the clues have been collected and participants are ready to submit their guess for who killed the carnival owner, they will turn in their clues and may attend the wake and reveal at Fohs Hall beginning at 6 p.m.
More than 100 people participated in last spring's Marion Murder Mystery, which attracted rave reviews. The cost for the event is $10 to play and $10 to attend the reveal.

Relay Lined up for Friday's Annual Event at Park
The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held Friday at Marion-Crittenden County Park, its home for the last several years. The event has at times been held downtown, at Rocket Arena and at the National Guard Armory over the last 22 summers. It’s fundraising has been consistent yet mixed during the last two decades. In the early years, the local effort reached near $100,000 at times and included as many as 1,500 participants. Last year, Relay raised $29,000. The money goes to benefit cancer research.
Natalie Parish has been chairperson of the event for the past eight years. She says this will be her last. Parish hopes her tenure goes out with a bang. She expects about a dozen teams to join the festivities, which begin at 6 p.m.
“If you’re not part of a team, you can still come out and participate, enjoy the event and support this worthy cause,” Parish said.
Cancer survivors are encouraged to be part of the opening ceremonies. Lineup for the Survivor Lap, a walk around the park’s track, will begin at 5:30 p.m. All of those participating in the Survivor Lap will receive a T-shirt and medal.

MARION KY - Missing Person Alert
UPDATE
A 55-year-old man believed missing for almost 24 hours was found just before 3pm today not far from where authorities had found his fishing pole and tackle.
Police had received a report earlier in the day that he had been missing since Sunday afternoon.
The man was found safe. He'd apparently gone to the home of a friend near the pond where he'd been fishing.
