Electronic ticketing here to stay at CCHS
GoFan allows both online ticket purchases and credit card payments at the gate.
GoFan is used by a number of school districts and by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association – perhaps exclusively in the near future. GoFan will provide the district with two iPads and two credit card readers to be used at entry gates of sporting events.
Athletic director Bryan Qualls said GoFan has the ability to text fans and update tickets if game dates change due to weather or other factors after tickets have been purchased. Suggested ticket price will be $6.
The GoFan app also paves the way for credit cards to be used at the concession stands in the future, Qualls said.

Memorial Weekend Salute
Comment on safe water sought by scientists
The proposed drinking water standards represent some of the most significant recommendations ever offered to protect the nation’s drinking water from PFAS. Under the proposal, legally enforceable levels would be established for six PFAS known to occur in drinking water.
PFAS are man-made chemicals found in a number of everyday products. Known as "forever chemicals" PFAS resist breaking down even many years after the items that contain them have been discarded. Because of this, they continually accumulate in soil and water, in the food supply, and even in human bloodstreams. PFAS chemicals have been associated with health threats, including an increased risk for some cancers.
The public comment period runs through May 30. To see the full proposal and/or provide comments, CLICK HERE.

Deadline for Ag Census is May 31
"Agriculture is important in our state and the census data will be used by all who serve American agriculture," said NASS Regional Director David Knopf. "Your response means you are being represented and helping to shape the future of farming and rural communities."
USDA NASS is reminding ag census recipients that if they produced and sold $1,000 or more of agricultural product in 2022, or normally would have produced and sold that much, they meet USDA’s definition of a farm. However, landowners who lease land to producers, those solely involved in conservation programs, and even those who may not have farmed in 2022 are still required to respond.
“If you received the ag census but do not fit the definition of a farm, are no longer farming, never farmed,

Public hearing Friday on Fohs project
There will be a public hearing Friday where citizens will have an opportunity to express views concerning the recreational needs of their community. This forum will be hosted by Crittenden County Fiscal Court at 9 a.m., Friday, May 19 at Fohs Hall.
The specific purpose of this meeting is to discuss the Fohs Hall Rotunda Project, under application for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant assistance.
Fohs Hall Inc., a community non-profit, is seeking funding to construct a new pavilion as part of a larger planned outdoor event and recreation space on a vacant three-acre lot at 130 N. Walker St. in Marion, directly across from the historic Fohs Hall, a National Register-listed community event center.
Plans are for the proposed pavilion to provide shelter for outdoor events and daily use by the community at large. Preliminary design is complete, with construction set to begin immediately upon the availability of grant funding, anticipated near the start of FY 2024-25.
The development of this site will provide community members with easy, walkable access to outdoor recreation, greenspace and will offer a new outdoor venue for community-oriented events. To accomplish these improvements, the county is applying for up to $250,000 in Land and Water Conservation Fund grant assistance, representing 50 percent of the total estimated project cost of $500,000. Other financial partners are expected to be involved in the project, including Fohs Hall, Inc., and Crittenden County Tomorrow.
The public is invited to review and voice opinions on the proposed activities and potential impacts of the project. Anyone wishing to support or oppose the proposed project can also submit written comments to Crittenden County Fiscal Court, 107 S. Main St., Suite 208, Marion KY 42064, by 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023.

Highway work on KY 120
UPDATED
An improvement project that was supposed to have started late last week was delayed a bit, but will continue into next week on KY 120 between Marion and Tribune.
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) began earlier this week preparing to mill and pave along a section of KY 120 east of Marion. However, only preliminary work had begun and milling may not start until Monday.
This milling and paving project will begin at Main Street in Marion extending eastward to the Tribune Creek Bridge near the KY 654 intersection, which is about 5.2 miles.
Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.
Rogers Group is the prime contractor on this $757,958 highway improvement project. The target completion date is Friday.

Clerk promotes Kentucky Gives Day
For over 10 years, the Kentucky Nonprofit Network (KNN) has rallied support for nonprofits all over the state by launching an annual day of giving called Kentucky Gives Day. This year, the online giving campaign day is Tuesday, May 9th.
Crittenden County Circuit Court Clerk, Melissa Guill, encourages everyone to get involved and help others.
“On May 9, people across the Commonwealth will celebrate generosity and make an impact for those in need. Our Transplant Patient Assistance Fund is one of the many wonderful programs you can support. We help at-risk Kentucky transplant patients who experience financial hardship due to medical bills, medications, and medical-related travel expenses. We can't allow organ transplant patients to have to choose between medication or groceries,” said Melissa Guill, Crittenden County Circuit Court Clerk. “Kentucky organ recipients, like one-year-old Rocky, need our help.”
The Transplant Patient Assistance Fund is administered by the Circuit Clerks’ Trust For Life/Donate Life Kentucky which is an independent non-profit participating in Kentucky Gives Day.
“In 2022, our Transplant Patient Assistance Fund granted $92,439 to 113 organ transplant recipients in Kentucky. They ranged from age 8 months to 72 years old. In 2023, we are anticipating more grant requests than ever before,” explains Shelley Snyder, Executive Director. “There are so many extraordinary nonprofits taking part in Kentucky Gives Day. Every gift is meaningful, at any level. We are eternally grateful for the Circuit Clerks’ continued commitment to the mission of organ donation and helping transplant patients.” To learn more and donate go to: https://www.kygives.org/organizations/donatelifeky.
Over 100,000 children and adults in America are waiting on a lifesaving transplant. Although there are a record-breaking number of transplants every year, still 17 people die waiting for their gift of life every day. Everyone is encouraged to join the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry at either of the following ways:

ELECTION: Local balloting underway now
Kentucky’s 2023 gubernatorial primary election is less than two weeks away and voting opportunities are available in the county.
In-person absentee voting is under way this week through May 10 at the Crittenden County Courthouse. This machine voting for absentee voters with an excuse for being out of town on Election Day will be from 8 a.m., to 4 p.m., in the county clerk’s office.
No-excuse early voting will be from 8 a.m., until 4 p.m., Thursday, May 11 through Saturday, May 13 inside the law library on the main floor of the courthouse.
Polls on Election Day will be open 6 a.m., to 6 p.m., at five voting locations in Crittenden County. Marion Baptist Church is the countywide balloting center for voters from any precinct. You may also vote in your home precinct at Mexico Baptist Church, Repton Church, Deer Creek Church or Shady Grove Fire Department.
County Clerk Daryl Tabor said turnout for statewide primaries with no local candidates on the ballot is typically low. Over the past 20 years, it’s been around 17 percent in this county. He anticipates much of the same as 15 candidates for governor headline the ballot, including Gov. Andy Beshear running for the Democratic nomination against two challengers. There are a dozen GOP candidates seeking the party’s ticket.
