Multiple injuries in KY 91 crash

On November 23, 2024, Caldwell County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Ladd responded to a two-vehicle collision on KY 91 (Marion Road).

A Chevrolet dump truck, driven by Paul Bealmear, 45, of Eddyville, KY, was traveling southbound when it left the roadway for unknown reasons. Upon over-correcting, the truck entered the northbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2024 GMC Sierra driven by Joshua Pottebaum, 44, of Princeton, KY.

A passenger in the Sierra, Jessica Pottebaum, 42, of Princeton, KY, sustained injuries and was airlifted to Nashville, TN, for treatment. Joshua Pottebaum was transported to Nashville, TN, by private vehicle. Paul Bealmear was transported by ambulance to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY.

Deputy Ladd was assisted at the scene by AmeriPro Ambulance Service, Princeton/Caldwell County Fire Department, Deputy Mac Englebright, and Stinnett Towing. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Fatal accident on I-24 at Kuttawa

A double fatality was among a spate of traffic accidents as the season's first snowfall blanketed the area, making driving hazardous.

The three-vehicle crash on I-24 in Lyon that took the lives of two individuals was near the Kuttawa exit 40 just after 5pm. Traffic was backed up for several hours in the eastbound lanes. No other details from the crash have been released.

First responders around the region worked a number of non-injury accidents, including a couple in Crittenden County.

Due to road conditions, Crittenden County Schools are out today.

No school Tuesday in Crittenden

Due to slick roads and below freezing temperatures through most of the day, Crittenden County Schools are dismissed on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Lyon County Sheriff's Report

Following is the latest report on activity from Lyon County Sheriff Brent White:

- On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 7:15am, Sheriff Brent White charged Tamara A. Gipson (47) of Eddyville with a Perjury-1st Degree complaint warrant from Lyon District Court. Gipson is accused of committing perjury during a juvenile court hearing when she testified to material, false statements, about a plea hearing which happened in a related Circuit Court case, after first being sworn and given a warning about perjury from a District Court Judge. This is the second perjury charge against Gipson in the last twelve months. In December of 2023, Gipson was indicted by a Lyon County Grand Jury for an unrelated offense of Perjury-1st Degree and she was convicted in August, 2024 of this crime. Gipson is lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.

- On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, around 2:20pm, Sheriff Brent White responded to a traffic hazard complaint from KYTC personnel on the East bound off-ramp of I-24 at Exit 40. Upon his arrival, he assisted a broken-down motorist by calling a tow truck to have a vehicle removed from the shoulder. While there, he observed a man (unrelated) on the exit ramp of the interstate and motioned for him to come off of the ramp. The man refused to get off the ramp and upon contact, he began to argue that he could legally stand on the exit ramp. When he was told that no pedestrians could be on a limited access highway by law, he yelled, got upset, and continued to be argumentative. He was arrested and charged with Stopping/Standing/Parking on Limited Access Highway. He was identified as James D. Owens (51) of Illinois. Owens was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center.
